Anatomy of the Green Sea Turtle

The GreenSea Sea TurtleAs with the other sea turtles Green turtle breaks the surface to breathe. They spend almost all their lives submerged but have to breathe air. The time submerged depends on the activity level.
When resting or sleeping the Green sea turtle can stay submerged for hours this time is much shorter while active hunting for food or escaping. Since the time it can stay under water are affected by activity and stress, the turtles can drown quickly when they get caught in shrimp trawls and other fishing gear. The GreenSea Sea Turtle
During routine activity green turtles dive for about 4 to 5 minutes and surface to breathe for 1 to 3 seconds.
